Our Story

In the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina, a little FOOD TRUCK buzzes with the warmth of tradition and the scent of home. It's a place where every dish tells a story, and each ingredient sings the praises of the Caribbean sun. J&J Juices, praised for its cullinary flavours, is more than just a another food truck —it's a living tribute to the legacy of two remarkable women: my mother, Mama alice and Mrs. Finikin.

Growing up, my mother was the heartbeat of our household. She would rise with the sun, her hands already busy preparing the day’s meals. The aroma of her cooking filled our home, a blend of spices and love that made even the simplest meal feel special. But it wasn’t just about the food; it was about the way she cooked. She never rushed, never cut corners. Everything was done with care and respect for the ingredients, a technique she passed down to me.

Then there was Mrs. Finikin, our close family friend, a woman whose culinary skills were just as excellent as my mother. She was the keeper of old-time Jamaican recipes, handed down through generations, each one a precious relic of our heritage. Both Mama Alice and Mrs. Finikin showed me how to make her famous oxtail with broad beans and rice and peas. Then there was the secret to the perfect jerk seasoning, and the art of making ackee and saltfish that could transport you straight to the shores of Jamaica with just one bite.

Inspired by these two incredible women, I decided to bring a taste of Jamaica to Charlotte. It wasn’t just about recreating the dishes I grew up with; it was about preserving a tradition, a way of cooking that honored the past while nourishing the present. I hand-cook everything, just like my mother and Mrs. Finikin did. From the rich, spicy jerk chicken to the tender curried goat, every dish is a testament to their influence. I use only the freshest ingredients, ensuring that each bite is as authentic as possible.

But it’s not just the food that draws people in; it’s the experience and the service we provide. Cooking is an art, and I treat it as such, taking time with each dish, infusing it with the flavors and love that my mother and Mrs. Finikin taught me.
